Dear Wendy and Munich

Dear Wendy

Dear Wendy
America's love affair with guns is cleverly satirised in this thought-provoking drama, directed by Thomas Vinterberg and written by Lars von Trier, of Dancer In The Dark. And Billy Elliot's Jamie Bell plays a pacifist in a poor American mining town who established a secret gun-worshipping club, the Dandies.

I'm expecting the film would end with a shocking and tragic climax like Lars von Trier did in Dancer In The Dark and Dogville.

Munich
And another movie I'm interested to watch is Munich, a suspense thriller set in the aftermath of the massacre of eleven Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics. Its director is Steven Spielberg.

From Apple Trailer:

This dramatic exploration inspired by true events follows a secret Israeli squad assigned to track down and kill the 11 Palestinians suspected to have planned the Munich attack-and the personal toll this mission of revenge takes on the team and the man who led it.

Sin City

Far from what I expected, but still good movie

Frank Miller's Sin City, was finally out in Japan this month. I went to see it with my friend this weekend.

First of all, it was far from what I expected, but still good movie and I like it.

Although I'd been interested in the movie and introduced it here in my blog sometimes, I didn't know much about the story, to my shame. And I didn't expect it'd be that violent. But it was violent. In many of the violent scenes like Miho's sword battles, I sensed a bit of Quentin Tarantino's taste, who joined as a special guest director.

And another point I noticed was that I needed a little time to get used to atmosphere. I'm not talking about visual things, but slow tempo of lines. At first I found it odd. However, it turned ok to me.

Jessica Alba is cute and Rosario Dawson is sexy. Benicio Del Toro has plays a comical role, while Clive Owen plays cool. Bruce Willis looks handsome in the movie. And Elijah Wood's anthropophagite is disgusting, but somehow funny, maybe because the character is too suitable to Elijah.

Sin city 2 is already planned.

Hawaii, Oslo

Hawaii, Oslo

When I stayed in Oslo, I bought some DVDs of Norwegian films. This is one of them. In fact, I'd known this film, since Styleboost introduced, in September 2004, the film's official website as a masterpiece. Although I didn't understand Norwegian, the site featuring kaleidoscopic visuals was convincing and impressive. Since then, I'd been thinking of buying it if I had a chance to go to Norway. And finally I've got it.

I'm not going to write in detail and don't have skills of writing reviews. But briefly. The set is in Oslo, where various characters lead their lives. They are not directly related each other at first, but they are mutually interrelated in the end of the film.

At the beginning, I found the film a bit slow and a story line complicated. But as the drama unfolded, I got into it. It was fantastic.

The film is directed by Norwegian Erik Poppe.

Martin Freeman

Martin Freeman, who is known as Tim of BBC's hit comedy, The Office, takes on the role of Arthur Dent in the new film version of the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. I've been supporting him since The Office. Hope this will be good for his career, although the film itself doesn't interest me much.

Sin City

Sin City

Frank Miller's Sin City will be shown in April 2005 in America. As far as I saw its trailer, this will be great. I hope the film will come to Japan.
